Vincentian Village

Vincentian Village was opened on 23 June 2008 in Hamlyn Heights, Geelong. This new state of the art aged care facility, offering Ageing in Place, is now home to 91 residents who were relocated from the previous two Geelong facilities, Rosalie House and Vincentian House, which serviced the local community for over 20 years.
 
This new single level facility comprises three interconnected residential houses and an administration wing. A homelike atmosphere is maintained as each house has its own kitchenette to service the houses' dining and lounge areas.
 
Vincentian Village incorporates numerous environmentally sustainable initiatives including rain water harvesting to supply garden, toilet and laundry needs; water-wise landscaping; low energy-use appliances and thermal massing techniques to help maintain a comfortable internal temperature for the residents.
 
An innovative sensory garden has been included in the design and makes use of the latest knowledge about dementia and its alleviation through landscaping techniques. The garden has been planned to engage the elderly, and those of risk of or suffering from dementia, to ensure they enjoy the meandering paths through the gardens but still remain in a safe and contained environment.
