Volunteering

By volunteering to make a difference, either as a regular volunteer or as a volunteer on a special project, you can make a difference for those in need.

For some Vinnies’ volunteers, this is a chance to give something back to the community, to use their skills and experience in ways that make a difference in the lives of people who need their help. For others, it is a chance to learn new skills and to get experience in a supportive environment.

There are a wide variety of volunteering opportunities. From working in a Vinnies store or depot – to tutoring refugee families – to taking disadvantaged children out on outings – to befriending an elderly or disabled person in your neighbourhood… volunteering for Vinnies is rich and rewarding experience!

In Canberra/Goulburn...

As a volunteer run organisation, the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn Central Council is largely carried out by members of the community who generously give their time to help others.

The Society relies on the dedicated voluntary commitment of many men and women to provide person to person service for those in need.

Volunteers are part of the Vincentian family. They are treated with mutual respect, trust, dignity and compassion and their talents, skills and commitment are valued highly.

The Society’s core activity is Home Visitation which enables volunteers to offer a variety of assistance to the disadvantaged in the privacy and security of their own homes.

Volunteers undertake a variety of roles within the Society from answering phones to general office work, working part time in our Vinnies Centres. Other volunteers work on our Night Patrol Van delivering food, warm drinks and a friendly face to people who are homeless on the streets. Volunteers at a conference level visit families and people in need in their homes as well as hospitals, prisons and detention centres.
