Gifts in Wills

With a gift in your Will to Vinnies you can let your values live on – and help transform the lives of Australian children, families and communities now, and in the future.

Every day, people are helped and lives are enriched by the work of Vinnies in our communities. Meals for the hungry, toys for children, financial assistance to keep the heat on, an overnight stay in a shelter for the homeless, or a safe refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence, are just some of the ways that Vinnies strives to give hope to others.

Whatever the crisis, a gift to Vinnies in your Will means we can continue to be there, long into the future.

Thanks to Vinnies supporters like you, we’ve been here for over 185 years, fighting to end poverty and injustice for the vulnerable and disadvantaged members in our community.

When you include a gift in your Will to Vinnies, you join a community of our most loyal and valued supporters

As a supporter of Vinnies, you are part of a community of thousands of people who believe that a better world is possible. From our specialist staff in our support services, to the accommodation we provide and the families and individuals we assist; our supporters, members, volunteers and campaigners, to the women, men and children we help to overcome poverty. Together, this is how we’re making a difference to the lives of people in our local communities.

“I have included a gift in my Will to Vinnies because, as a long-time volunteer, I have seen first-hand the good work they do. I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and a warm bed to climb into at the end of each day. I choose to show my gratitude and help Vinnies to continue their good work by way of a gift in my Will. Together we can help change lives not only now but for generations to come.”

What types of gifts can you leave in your Will?

There are a few different ways you can remember Vinnies in your Will. You can also remember a loved one with a compassionate gift. If you’re not sure which is best for you, a solicitor can help you, but here are the most common types our supporters choose from:

A SHARE OF YOUR ESTATE: Once you have taken care of your loved ones, you can leave a share of, or the remainder of your estate to us. This is called a residuary gift.

A SPECIFIC GIFT IN YOUR WILL: You can choose to leave us a specific item, such as jewellery, shares or even a property when making a Will. This is called a specific gift.

A GIFT OF MONEY IN YOUR WILL: You can choose to leave us a specific amount of money in your Will. This is called a pecuniary gift

Leaving a gift in your Will is easier than you think

Once you have taken care of your own family, a gift in your Will to Vinnies enables your values to live on. Your gift will show those you love what’s most important to you and how you’d like to be remembered.

Many people think that making, or updating a Will is complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. A simple Will can be prepared, or updated by one of the Honorary Solicitor from our referral program, free of charge, when you include Vinnies in your estate plans. Our Gifts in Wills team is happy to take you through any questions and provide you with a list of solicitors who participate in Will referral program.

Supporter Stories

Barry

“Including a bequest in my will is just one small way in which I can assist those Australians who are less fortunate and greatly disadvantaged by their circumstances,” Barry says.

Doreen

“I get the magazine from Vinnies as a donor, and I see what they do at the Matthew Talbot Hostel and the people there, and the women who’ve been sleeping in cars and all that sort of thing, and I think oh, gosh, you know, if I can help in some way," says Doreen.

Vince

During his lifetime Vince worked tirelessly for the community, which involved volunteering at the Mathew Talbot Hostel, visiting inmates at Long Bay Gaol, making hospital and home visits to the sick and needy, and organising and distributing Christmas hampers for poor families and pensioners. His generous donation means his legacy lives on in the work done by the Society.
