Vinnies fill-a-bag sale offers affordable Christmas gifts amid rising living costs

Vinnies shops across New South Wales are having a Bric-a-Brac Bonanza sale this week, with customers invited to fill a bag with goodies at Vinnies shops for as little as $10.50.  

Books, homewares, toys, CDs, DVDs and other bric-a-brac will be part of the promotion. Customers can claim products for a fraction of their original retail value by purchasing a shopping bag packed full of items at a flat rate. 

The sale comes at an important time of year, as new research conducted by YouGov for the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW shows that 68% of Australians are worried that festive season expenses will put a strain on their finances, and three in five (62%) feel stressed about being able to buy gifts for family and friends. 

“We know that people are struggling with the cost of living in the lead up to Christmas this year,” says Lauren Hussey-Berlin, Product Stewardship Manager at St Vincent de Paul Society NSW. 

“We don’t want to see people worrying about how they’ll afford presents to put under the tree when they don’t have space in the budget for extra purchases. Our Bric-a-Brac Bonanza sale means that even if they haven’t got much to spend, they can come into our stores this week and fill up a bag with homewares, books or toys to use as Christmas gifts for the whole family”. 

Vinnies shops raise funds for St Vincent de Paul Society to operate a range of programs and services in the community. Close to 100,000 people were supported by Society NSW members over the last year, increasing by 14% from the previous 12 months. A third of all people reaching out for support did so for the first time. This shows that cost-of-living pressures are affecting an increasing number of Australians who are struggling to stay afloat.
