The Big Housing Build in Footscray plans to construct a 92-unit apartment block. These will be a mixture of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom units, housing all ages and cohorts. The site is near to local shops and services with good public transport connections close by.
The development also contains plans for community spaces and an office space for tenancy/support services. Completion of this project is expected to be in August 2024.
Under a dark grey sky in the western suburb of Footscray, a milestone ceremony on the 18th floor of a new housing project shone brightly – heralding new beginnings and hope for 100+ Victorians in desperate need of safe, stable shelter.
Known as a topping out ceremony (literally signifying reaching the top of a building project), this significant event marked another commitment milestone of a partnership between St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria, our subsidiary, VincentCare Community Housing and the Victorian Government.
Group CEO Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald AM joined St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria State President Michael Quinn, the Minister for Housing, Harriet Shing and approximately 35 guests.
More than 100 lives are set to be transformed with 92 new units delivered by our VincentCare Community Housing and Homes Victoria.
Our new Footscray social housing development was funded by Homes Victoria as part of the $5.3 billion Big Housing Build and delivered in partnership with Australian Housing Solution and L.U. Simon Builders.
The 18-storey residential social building in the middle of Footscray will comprise 28 one-bedroom, 58 two-bedroom and six three-bedroom homes and ground floor office space, along with parking. The Footscray project is one of three housing projects with our Epping project starting soon and the start our Bendigo project not too far away.
The new Footscray development set to be finished in the second half of 2024 reflects St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria’s as well as the Victorian Government's commitment to grow social housing and offer a practical response to the housing crisis.
To mark this milestone, a sod-turning event was held on Wednesday 10 August at the site.
The St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria was proud to announce moving into the building phase of our first major community housing project set to deliver 92 new safe, secure and affordable homes in Footscray in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build and construction company LU Simon Builders.
Footscray is the first of three projects that VCCH in partnership with the Victorian Government and construction partners to deliver that will provide 164 new homes in total. The other two projects are to be located in Bendigo and Epping.
