Life took an unexpected turn for Linda when her daughter, who is a single mother, faced severe personal challenges and health issues, leaving Linda to care for her two grandchildren, Lily and Jack on a small pension. It has been a tremendous struggle for her but as a grandmother, Linda didn't hesitate to step in and cherishes the role she is now playing.

Her days are filled with love and laughter from Lily, who is four, and Jack, who is six, but nights bring worry and stress. Linda's income is stretched thin covering rent, utilities, medication for herself and the special skincare Lily needs for her eczema. Even with her efforts to teach English for a small fee, it’s hard to make ends meet.

Walking Jack to school

Linda walks Jack to school while carrying Lily because she refuses the stroller which is just one of the many challenges she faces. The hardest part is knowing that her grandchildren might miss out on a joyful, carefree childhood due to the financial constraints.

As a grandmother, Linda wants only the best for Lily and Jack.

Thanks to Vinnies, Linda can provide Jack with fruit and sandwiches for his school lunch, which is priceless.

"I’m also able to get fresh vegetables and healthy food that I otherwise couldn’t afford, ensuring Lily and Jack have the nutrition they need to grow and thrive," says Linda. She points out that the recent increase in food prices has made it even harder for families on tight budgets.

"The Vinnies Soup Vans have been a lifeline for us. At first, I was hesitant to queue up, but the warm, friendly volunteers quickly made us feel welcome. Seeing the joy on Jack and Lily’s faces when they enjoy their hot chocolate is so special.

"Vinnies and the volunteers are angels in disguise, ensuring my grandkids don’t go hungry and I always have someone to talk to."

The generosity provided allows Linda to focus on being together as a family without the constant worry of going hungry.

"Every time I visit the Vinnies Soup Vans with Lily and Jack, I am very grateful. The food we receive helps me to care for my grandchildren and it brightens our days. Knowing that generous people donate to Vinnies to make this possible, fills me with hope for the future and that little bit extra helps to make a big difference in our lives."

“Thank you Vinnies for your kindness and support and helping us through our difficult times.”
