Mini Vinnies fundraise for St Columba's

St Columba’s Primary School in Ballarat North celebrates a decade of ‘good works’.

St Columba’s Primary School in Ballarat North is celebrating a decade of ‘good works’ in partnership with St Vincent de Paul Society.

Over the years, the school has made a significant impact on its local community through a range of volunteering and social justice projects, raising over $5,000 last year alone.

The Mini Vinnies team, consisting of 40+ dedicated students, participate in numerous St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria initiatives each year, including the Winter Appeal, Christmas Appeal, School Sleepouts and more. Their efforts provide vital contributions to the local Ballarat North Conference, helping to assist families in need.

The Mini Vinnies group often approach local companies and businesses to garner additional support and resources.

Last year students in grades 5 and 6 participated in a Business Study program, where they were tasked with planning all aspects of running a business – from developing the initial concept through to sourcing materials, managing a budget and supplying a product.

Students showcased and sold their products at the school fete, with all proceeds donated to St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria. The fete raised an impressive $5,500 – an extraordinary achievement for a school with just over 300 students.

The remarkable efforts of the students, along with the enthusiastic support of the broader school community, highlight the profound impact these projects have and demonstrate the essential role that School Conferences play in supporting local families.
