The Vinnies Community Food Centre project has recently been accepted as part of the Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) network and earned the distinction of becoming a Good Food Organisation.

Though our CFC is still in development, this milestone connects us to a global movement of over 400 organisations across Canada and beyond, all dedicated to advancing food security, health, and community well-being through the power of good food.

The Good Food Organisation initiative is about much more than food provision – it’s about reimagining how food programs are designed and delivered. By joining this initiative, we’re aligning with CFCC’s guiding principles, which emphasise:

  • Prioritising dignity: Ensuring everyone accessing food programs feels respected and valued.
  • Focusing on long-term change: Addressing the root causes of hunger and poverty rather than relying on short-term fixes.
  • Promoting health: Offering nourishing, high-quality food and encouraging healthy living.
  • Strengthening communities: Using food as a tool to bring people together, foster relationships, and build resilience.

One of the key benefits of the partnership is access to the CFCC Partner Portal. This space provides an extensive resource library that includes everything from detailed manuals and toolkits, to evaluation guides and fundraising plan templates. These resources offer clear, actionable steps for creating programs, including materials for running child and youth food projects, organising cooking workshops, and even recipe cards for community meals.

The portal also connects us with other Community Food Centres and Good Food Organisations, providing a variety of ways to learn from their experiences. Informal forums and message boards provide opportunities to chat, and networking events are regularly hosted to foster idea-sharing and collaborations. This will be invaluable for building connections, sharing insights, and gaining fresh perspectives on running innovative programs.

As the first organisation in Western Australia to adopt the CFC model under Vinnies, this partnership gives us a unique advantage. The resources and knowledge we now have access to are grounded in real-world experience, tested by other organisations, and ready to be adapted to our own programs. Whether it’s developing workshops, evaluating our impact, or tackling larger challenges in the advocacy space, this partnership will provide a solid foundation for us to grow and make a lasting difference in the Mirrabooka community and beyond.
