The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is just one night of the year where business and community leaders come together to gain a glimpse into the difficulties of homelessness.
Sadly, thousands of people around the country face the harsh realities of not knowing where they will sleep on a daily basis.
By taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, participants are challenged to make a commitment of how they will go beyond the night to make a difference to the lives of people routinely experiencing hardship and disadvantage.
See how you can go beyond one night by signing up today at www.ceosleepout.org.au.
A large reason behind the success of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout has been the word of mouth among business and community leaders encouraging their colleagues to rise to the challenge.
With participants gaining newfound knowledge and appreciation for the safety, security and stability that comes with having a place to call home, encouraging others to brave the conditions and raise funds is a key step in enabling Vinnies to continue supporting people in need.
Signing up for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout only takes a few minutes, but the effects of taking part can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
After taking part in his first Vinnies CEO Sleepout, Danny Munk, Aster Group CEO, took up the offer of a fellow participant to join a team on the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Vinnies Van.
“When I saw the amount of people who needed the food options provided by Vinnies, I just stood back and went ‘this is not five or ten people’, this is 40 to 60 people ranging from ten years of age to 80 years of age,” Danny recalls.
“One of the things that stunned me was that there was a lovely couple there that you would have seen at any Westfield shopping centre wandering around – well dressed, groomed – without the meals from Vinnies, two times a week, they couldn’t make their food budget.
“It was a moment of awareness that set me back on my heels and from that moment on it became a commitment.”
Since that first time volunteering on the Vinnies Van, Danny has encouraged his staff to do likewise as part of his commitment to support the vulnerable members of his community.
One of the ways participants can go beyond the night of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is by pledging support as a corporate partner.
Corporate partners play a key role in ensuring services operated by Vinnies can continue supporting people in need by making a substantial financial contribution over the course of several years.
Businesses like Genworth have shown their support after sleeping out with contributions that have supported our domestic violence refuges, enabled new positions for case workers to support the growing number of people seeking assistance, as well as ensuring our Metropolitan Van Service can continue to meet the demand of people in need.
