We're delighted to announce that Vinnies Fairy Meadow has now reopened after water damage from a freak storm caused a three-month closure.
Volunteers and staff at Fairy Meadow have been working in neighbouring areas while the shop received a major renovation. They are excited to have returned to their location which features a fresh look.
“The team at Fairy Meadow are thrilled to be reopening the doors of our Fairy Meadow shop. It has a new modern feeling and a wide range of options for people looking to find some pre-loved treasures, while at the same time giving back to their local community.”
More than just a place to shop for second-hand goods, this location is the first in NSW to host a donation chute, providing members of the local community with an easy way to drop off their pre-loved items.
Vinnies Shops raise critical funds for the Society every year, to help people at risk of or experiencing disadvantage. In the past year, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW assisted over 12,000 individuals in the Illawarra region and distributed more than $1.5 million in financial and material assistance to residents in need—nearly 40% more than the previous year. Of the people reaching out, 92% needed food assistance and 40% were experiencing housing stress.
The Vinnies Fairy Meadow shop couldn’t reopen without the hard work and dedication of incredible volunteers and staff. Volunteers donate a few hours of their time each week to assist customers, sort donations and maintain the day-to-day running of the shop. Locals who are interested in volunteering with Vinnies Fairy Meadow are encouraged to apply online or visit the store to meet the team in person.
