Vinnies officially opens new Return and Earn site in Griffith

Griffith locals have a new location to cash in their bottles and cans, with a large-format Return and Earn automated depot now open on Lenehan Road. The bulk-processing facility is designed to quickly process up to 100,000 containers each day.  

Return and Earn network operator TOMRA Cleanaway has partnered with St Vincent de Paul Society NSW to operate Griffith Return and Earn. While it will be the first return point of its kind in Griffith, it’ll be Vinnies’ ninth Return and Earn depot in NSW.

St Vincent de Paul Society has been involved with Return and Earn since the scheme launched six years ago, priding itself on providing easy and convenient access for the community to return their eligible bottles and cans for the 10c refund.

The partnership with Return and Earn provides Vinnies with an important revenue stream, which supports the Society’s programs and services that helps people experiencing poverty and disadvantage.

“We are delighted with the reception to our ninth bulk Container Deposit Scheme site and look forward to the Griffith community embracing the service,” said Yolanda Saiz, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO.

“To date, our Griffith site has processed approximately 1.7 million containers, averaging more than 210,000 containers each week since opening in March.

“The funds are going straight back into helping us provide care and assistance to people doing it tough, to help with household bills, with food, rent, and into supporting our services.”
