Help for those who need it most

About the service:

The Vinnies Refugee & Asylum Seeker Service (VRASS) mainly supports Asylum seekers on Bridging Visas and expired visas. However, some support extends to Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) holders and those transitioning to Resolution of Status Visa (ROS).

This service is provided by one paid Coordinator and approximately twenty volunteers who are experienced and passionate about assisting refugees and asylum seekers. The service is almost entirely funded by community and business donations, together with some emergency relief funding from the Federal Government.

How we can assist:

  • Visa and settlement information and support
  • Legal referrals and support
  • Emergency relief funding for utility bills and rent, criteria apply
  • Foodbank vouchers, fresh and non-perishable pantry onsite
  • Material support, Vinnies cards for clothing
  • Housing support, applications, referrals, advocacy
  • Employment services, resumes, job application support
  • Vocational education support and referrals
  • Financial counselling
  • English Languages classes for refugee backgrounds
  • Popup health clinics and referrals, dental, optometry, medical

How to access the service:

The Vinnies Refugee & Asylum Seeker Service is located at the Vinnies House of Welcome, 43 LeHunte Street Kilburn SA

This office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am-2pm. Walk-ins welcome.

Can I volunteer for the Vinnies Refugee & Asylum Seeker Service?

Volunteers are most welcome.  You only need a few hours each month to assist people in need. You will receive an induction, be guided through our processes and be covered by our insurance.
