Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn will open its first inner-city shop location in the beating heart of Braddon on Lonsdale Street in late September.
Vinnies Braddon will be the 28th location in our network of shops to operate in the region. Offering more than just a place for preloved objects to find a new home, keeping them out of landfill, it will provide a place for connection, for volunteering and giving back. Most importantly, a way for Vinnies to raise desperately needed funds for those in need in the community.
The flagship shop is also set to be a thrifter’s paradise tapping into local demand for vintage fashion, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z.
“There will be more colour in the shop than a gigantic box of skittles and with bargains just as sweet.”
“Our plans include more than a hundred racks bursting with every thrifters dreams including men and women’s clothing, garments for children and babies, Manchester, bedding, home décor and more. Said Isla Smith, Retail Development Manager at Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn.
“And then there’s what we can fit on the g-zillion wall shelves we have planned – Bric a Brac, curios, collectables, antiques, ornaments, gizmos, thingamabobs, knick-knacks – you get the drift.”
Designed in-house from scratch, the fit out of the unique 610 square metre (about twice the area of a tennis court) floor plan will use reclaimed timber and metal sheeting along with bespoke fixtures and shelving all fitting of the lively neighbourhood.
Julie Bartley will swap her role as the current Shop Manager in Vinnies Dickson to become the inaugural, Vinnies Braddon Shop Manager saying, “I have a young daughter and I want to make the world a better place for her and the future. Working at Vinnies allows me to do that by giving back to the community while being creative. “
“I am excited to set up the new shop to make it beautiful and excited in general to build our community of volunteers and patrons.”
Vinnies Braddon is now looking for passionate volunteers to help with the setup and launch.
“Whether you’re a die-hard thrifter, eco-lover or someone who loves the warm fuzzies you get from meeting new people, learning new stuff, and helping others.” said Isla.
“You can see how the Vinnies magic happens when you are volunteering with us. Each of our centres is a shop-family, with all volunteer roles designed so each worker gets the most from what they are doing.”
