Submission on Australian Government Drought Plan 2024

The St Vincent de Paul Society National Council recommends mechanisms to monitor the economic impact of drought on communities more broadly. It notes that community resilience tends to focus on infrastructure, preparedeness and risk management, with limited mention on the need to build personal resilience and a community’s social capital. The Society is also concerned about relying on Emergency Relief as a source of economic support as the program is already at capacity.
