The St Vincent de Paul Society National Council notes that the impact of unfair pricing practices is a disproportionate burden on vulnerable communities.

The Society supports increased regulation for Buy Now Pay Later services and telecommunications etc, improved access to energy efficiency schemes, and tailored insurance options to help alleviate the financial stress being experienced by vulnerable households.

The Society calls for a national food strategy to ensure fair and equitable access to essentials.

Other recommendations include increased financial counselling support; expansion of the No Interest Loans Scheme; and a more comprehensive approach to help individuals and families grappling with financial stress.

While the Society supports the need to better address price gouging practices, it also advocates for a more compassionate and just society, where the needs of the disadvantaged are prioritised through policy reforms and targeted interventions.
