National Housing and Homelessness Plan Bill 2024 (No.2)

The St Vincent de Paul Society National Council supports legislating the National Housing and Homelessness Plan. For too long, housing and homelessness policies have been subject to the vagaries of the governments, at all levels, of the day. They have been developed with limited opportunity for real consultation with the full range of stakeholders, especially consumers. Importantly, they lack the transparency and accountability that is desperately needed in order to monitor and assess the effectiveness of outcomes, particularly for vulnerable cohorts. Legislating the Plan will help with future-proofing this important work, while also improving transparency and accountability.
