Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia's Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2020

The St Vincent de Paul Society National Council of Australia highlights concern about the prolonged economic recovery, estimating a four-year period for unemployment to normalise.

Our submission critiques the Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia's Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2020, expressing reservations about its potential to reinforce insecure work and diminish workers' rights.

The submission recommends delaying the Bill's progress, conducting broader consultations, and reviewing specific provisions such as the definition of casual work, improved access to arbitration and criminalising underpayment.

The Bill should align with principles that prioritise workers' well-being, do not leave workers worse off and address existing inequalities in the labour market.
