This Summer issue of our quarterly magazine showcases a wide variety of our community-based activities across Australia. These include emergency and more permanent accommodation to assist both women and men who have been left homeless by the nation's chronic housing shortages and the cost-of-living crisis.
In this issue features celebrations of St Vincent de Paul Society's long service in the Northern Territory (75 years), Canberra, Brighton Conference in Melbourne and St Francis Xavier Conference in Wollongong (100 years each), 125 years of service in Tasmania and 140 years in South Australia. This comes on top of our inaugural 170th year celebration in Victoria earlier this year.
We introduce our new Presidents in NSW, SA and the NT, plus the progress made in revitalising the Society since our Congress 2023 in Sydney.
The Not-for-profit Sector Development Blueprint is one of the most important Government reports ever produced for charities and related organisations. This marks the start of a new era for a sector that employs one-in-ten working Australians. National Council Secretariate CEO Toby oConnor was among the Blueprint Expert Reference Group that produced the report.
As the 2025 federal election nears, we are gearing up to inform all sitting MPs about our key social justice priorities. Also, to assist our Members engage with political candidates in key seats. Areas of prime focus are: Supporting a safety net for all Australians + Housing security across the country + Meeting the needs of First Nations Peoples + Rising to the refugee challenge.
Plus a range of stories highlighting the Society's diverse work across Australia, from Vinnies shops to food kitchens in Tasmania and boosting homelessness services in Darwin. At this time of year, our Members are busy packing and delivering Christmas hampers to households doing it tough amidst the cost-of living crisis.
