Peter Guy has devoted his life to caring for those in need.

Professionally, he pursued a career as a nurse. Personally, he provided constant care to his wife in the years before her passing. And for years to come, he will be supporting people facing hardship through a gift in his Will that will support the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

“I support the Matthew Talbot Hostel because of the serious problem in NSW with homelessness,” explains Peter.

“I have left a gift in my Will to help the Matthew Talbot continue its amazing, unique work to provide shelter, hope, and the feeling that some people do care and treat them with love.”

Our Matthew Talbot Hostel assists hundreds of men each year with crisis accommodation, regular meals, clothing, access to specialist healthcare and much more. The generosity of donors leaving a gift in their Will allows the service to assist more people to rebuild their lives.

Peter’s involvement with the St Vincent de Paul Society began upon his retirement where he sought to devote his time as a member to helping people experiencing disadvantage. It was through this role that Peter was able to put his gifts of kindness and compassion, gained during his time as a nurse, into practice by visiting people in their homes, listening to their troubles and empathising with their needs.

In his capacity as a member, Peter also saw the work performed at the Matthew Talbot Hostel first hand and the impact the service was able to have in the lives of men in the grips of homelessness and hardship.

“I saw amazing changes in men who learnt to cook, learn living skills and even become eligible for government housing.”

The latest NSW Statewide Street Count revealed the number of rough sleepers increased by 26% over the past year to more than 2,000 statewide. For the 280 people sleeping rough in the City of Sydney, the support provided by services such as the Matthew Talbot Hostel is invaluable in restoring hope and dignity in times of need.

“I hope that my gift in my Will will help the Hostel continue, to help ease its financial needs to operate, and hopefully one day to expand.”

Peter’s decision to include a gift in his Will to the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW will ensure that our services can continue assisting people experiencing and at risk of homelessness.

“I would advise people who would think of remembering Vinnies in their Wills – Vinnies needs financial help to continue helping the poor, the needy, and the homeless in a practical way.”
