Vinnies is in desperate need of kind donations by June 30 to ensure women and children like Leah and Charlotte always have somewhere to go.

Every donation of over $2 is TAX deductible.

Leah’s story is quite shocking, as is the growing number of women and their children who are experiencing violence at home.

Raised in a violent home herself, Leah thought she’d escaped when she moved in with her boyfriend as a teenager. But, as is all too often the case, when you’re vulnerable and desperate, you don’t always see the red flags. Soon, Leah found herself pregnant and living with a violent partner.

“He would kick my pregnant stomach. I was terrified for the baby,” – Leah remembers.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children.

Tragically, the number of women experiencing domestic violence has increased significantly in the past two years. On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner in Australia.

During the pandemic the pressures felt in many homes has led to a frightening increase in domestic violence. As a result, shelters crisis care centres are overflowing and can’t keep up with the demand, leaving women like Leah with little choice but to return to the terrible situation at home, sleep in cars, on friends’ couches or on the streets.

 

…It’s a choice no one should be forced to make. 

   

 

Leah’s story is not as uncommon as it should be. Which is why donations and support is so urgently needed.
