We offer our volunteers training, mentoring and a chance to make a difference with a few laughs along the way.

Studies show volunteers enjoy the numerous mental and physical health benefits due to the social and meaningful engagement found in voluntary activities, general wellbeing and happiness increases.

Our volunteers from all walks of life, respecting Vinnies ethos and mission, giving their time freely to support our good works.

We are working towards a better future for both our environment and our community as we reduce, reuse and recycle whist raising funds for our Programs that support the poor and disadvantaged.

Community donations resold in Vinnies Retail Stores is our most active fundraising front. Volunteers are crucial to supporting Vinnies Community Programs and Services that support our Territory.

Vinnies donations fuel our most active fundraising front - Our Retail Stores! Vinnies Volunteers are crucial to supporting Vinnies Retail operations as such our Community Programs and Services that support our Territory. 

Our Warehouse may be the perfect location for a volunteer who is less interested in a customer facing role and would still like to contribute to our major fundraising and environmental efforts.

Location:

Coconut Grove (Warehouse and Distribution Centre) Monday to Friday

Vinnies Warehouse feeds all our Vinnies Retail Stores from Coolalinga to Darwin City. This location is the NT's biggest operation of collecting, sorting and distributing donations, plus its fully air-conditioned. This is Not-a-Store, (we do not allow customers) we do greet donors on arrival with their generous donations. This location supports Vinnies Emergency Relief Program through the collection and distribution of furniture donations to families in need.

Larger item donation location:

These locations are not warehouses, however feature the capacity to collect and sort a large amount of donations. They offer volunteers work in non-customer facing roles, connecting with other volunteers' and greeting donors on arrival with their generous donations.

Alice Springs (Store) Monday to Saturday 

Alice Springs Warehouse is connected to our Alice Springs Vinnies Retail Store. With temperature control and huge area to work in, it's a great place to start your retail journey. 

Palmerston (Store) Monday to Saturday 

Palmerston Warehouse is collected to our Palmerston Vinnies Retail Store. The area is fully air conditioned, supporting our volunteers who prefer a less customer facing role.

Vinnies Emergency Relief Service is a front-line service that works with the poor and disadvantaged at some of the most difficult times in an individual's or family's life.

  • Stuart Park (Ozanam House Day Centre for the Homeless)

1 in 17 Territorians experience Homelessness every night. Ozanam House Day Centre for the Homeless Volunteers foster a safe place to restore hope and dignity. It is the only homeless centre in Darwin and is a front-line service that works with some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Vinnies Visitation Volunteers are usually affiliated with our Conferences; however, you do not need to be a member to participate in home Visitations. Visit people in need of connection in their home, in hospital or prison visits.

For some Vinnies volunteers, this is a chance to use their skills and experience to give back to the community. For others, volunteering provides a chance to develop new skills and gain experience in a supportive environment.

As a volunteer, you'll benefit from:

  • The satisfaction of helping others
  • Sharing your skills and teaching others
  • Learning new skills
  • The sense of community and friendship

There are a variety of volunteering opportunities to get involved with. Depending on location, these might include:

  • Working in a Vinnies Retail Store
  • Working at our Warehouse and Distribution Centre
  • Working at Homelessness Support Services (Ozanam House Stuart Park)
  • Working at Emergency Relief Services
  • Working in our Head Office, helping with day-to-day admin

With a range of services and programs to be involved in, there is something to suit all commitment levels from weekly, monthly, quarterly or ad-hoc volunteering.

The Society recognises that the level of involvement volunteers can commit to will vary depending on their personal circumstances such as study, work, and family commitments.

Members and volunteers are also supported to adjust their commitment as their personal circumstances change.

Volunteering is 100% discretionary - your time is your gift

To ensure the safety and support of our volunteers, we provide training in

  • Society programs
  • Workplace Health and Safety
  • Child protection
  • Social and formation opportunities, including retreats and Festival days.

You do not need to be Catholic to volunteer.

The St Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic lay organisation, we welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs who support our mission to help the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy; to shape a more just and compassionate society.
