We offer young people a number of opportunities to serve people in the local community, including Kids Days Out, Buddy Camps, tutoring and mentoring, and more.
The St Vincent de Paul Society started in the 1830’s when Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old University student, felt inspired to do something about the poverty he saw in his community in Paris, France. Today, Vinnies works with young people across the world, Australia, and Tasmania to continue this legacy and fight for a more just and compassionate society.
‘Vinnies Youth’ is a term given to young adult members and volunteers of the St Vincent de Paul Society. From primary school, high school, university and beyond, the Society works to offer young people the opportunity to learn, reflect, and make a difference in their community. By taking part, you’ll be joining hundreds of school and youth groups across Australia working alongside Vinnies to grow the next generation of social justice advocates, plus you’ll be supporting the direct work Vinnies does day-in-day-out to help those in our community who need it most.
Youth Conferences are groups of young people under 35 years of age that share similar values and meet regularly to discuss social justice issues, plan outreach programs such as Buddy Days, and community fundraising and advocacy events. Unlike our Next Gen Conferences, our Youth Conferences are not restricted to school students.
We are passionate about connecting students to their community and providing opportunities to learn about helping and supporting others with love, respect, justice, hope, and joy. We offer various school engagement opportunities to help students build their skills, and to promote a more just and compassionate society.
Get in touch with us via email or phone and the Vinnies Youth team will be happy to chat about getting your school involved with Vinnies!
Our primary school social justice groups, known as ‘Mini Vinnies’, empower primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by putting their values into action. They meet regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the wider St Vincent de Paul Society. They are led by designated teachers, with support from Vinnies staff through resourcing and school visits.
Vinnies Next Gen are our High School & College Conferences. They are groups of students who meet regularly and run social justice initiatives and fundraisers in their school and community. They are student-led and supported by teachers. Vinnies staff provide resources and can visit for talks and workshops.
Vinnies can visit your school to give talks to classes or assemblies on Vinnies Programs and Support, Homelessness, Sustainability and more.
Our school groups love getting involved with our Sleepouts, Winter Appeal and Christmas Appeal fundraisers each year, and we simply could not reach as far as we do without their support!
Please reach out to your local Vinnies Youth Representative to discuss other ways your school and Vinnies can work together.
