St Vincent de Paul Society reopens Vinnies Store in Circular Head

Media Release
09/07/2023

The St Vincent de Paul Society is reopening the Circular Head Vinnies store on Monday May 29. Vinnies store will be sharing the same space as the Community Hub at 132 Nelson Street. This follows the closure of the shop in 2020, due to several factors, including COVID 19; and to revitalise the space into a Community Hub.

St Vincent de Paul Society Chief Operations Officer, Dr Les Baxter, said that the reopening of the Vinnies store marks an exciting time for the Society and the Circular Head community.

“We are through the worst of COVID 19 and its impact on volunteer organisations, the 28-unit Rosalie Court development will be opening soon, and the Hub activities continue to support the people of Circular Head through the Society’s various programs, Dr Baxter said.

“Vinnies has been a valuable member of the Circular Head community in Tasmania for many years. The Vinnies store in Nelson Street allowed the Society to fund emergency relief assistance, support for people in need, and assist with the costs of programmes like Vinnies’ Vans and Dining with Friends. We understand the important role the Vinnies store played in the community, so we are pleased to be able to announce its reopening.

“The updated Vinnies store will reopen in a new space, behind the Community Hub at the rear of the building. The retail shop will once again provide an opportunity for community members to browse the huge range of clothing for men, women, and children. The store will also stock household items, books, toys, furniture, nick-nacks, bedding, and mattresses – almost everything anyone could need at a very reasonable price. Of course, we are very proud of the fact that all profits from the Circular Head Vinnies store go to support the Society's work and people in need in the local community.

“We will still be keeping the Community Hub, which has become a valuable space to deliver emergency relief assistance. It is also a welcoming and perfect venue for the Society's Dining with Friends program, Vinnies’ Van operations, and other community events.

“With the new shop opening soon, the first thing the Society would like to do is acknowledge and thank all the local volunteers who have made it possible to run the activities and reopen the Vinnies store. However, we still need additional volunteers to help us to help others.

“We are actively looking for additional volunteers for the new Smithton store, and others to join the growing team on Vinnies Van, at The Hub; and to deliver Emergency Relief in Smithton. Spending a few days volunteering in the Circular Head Vinnie store is a great way to give back to the community while you make friends and enjoy a sense of fulfilment and achievement,” Dr Baxter said.

The Circular Head Vinnies store will open Monday – Friday from 10am to 4pm at 132 Nelson Street, Circular Head. To volunteer at the store, please contact Naomi Innes on 0480 147 697. Or, to volunteer with one of the other activities delivered from The Hub, please call Mikkayla Leckie on 0444 569 697 during business hours.
