Vinnies’ free laundry and shower facility hours have been extended in Launceston and can now be accessed from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday in the former YMCA building in Blaydon St, Kings Meadows.
The facility provides towels, laundry supplies and toiletries with a complimentary continental breakfast, tea and coffee for all patrons with these items generously donated by the Freemason’s Board of Benevolence. Most importantly, the site provides a warm and welcoming space where volunteers deliver a friendly ear and time for sensitive and supportive conversation to those experiencing vulnerability.
Delivered in partnership with the City of Launceston, the free breakfast, shower and laundry facility, which now operates over longer hours, has provided Vinnies greater scope to serve the local community in a meaningful way.
Services like this are reliant on volunteers to keep things running smoothly each day and new volunteers are always welcome to work as little as one morning per week - greeting patrons, restocking supplies and providing general clean up services.
Enrolling as a Vinnies volunteer can be an incredibly rewarding experience as it develops new skills and assists people in the community by offering companionship to break the barriers of social isolation.
